Hello everyone,
New to the boards here and needs some help with the cycling of my new Innovative Marine Nuvo 4 Gallon. I'll get right to the point. I started it up about 10 o'clock last night. Mixed my own salt water using DI water and Instant Ocean Reef Crystals. Used live sand and cured Fiji live rock from the local fish store. So, I came home from work today and tested my water just to get an idea where I stand at the moment. I received the following parameters:
PH - 8.0
Ammonia - 0.25 ppm
Nitrite - 2.0
Nitrate - 20 ppm
I guess my question is why are both my Nitrite and Nitrate levels high? Have I already gone thru my Ammonia spike? I thought this would take several weeks to achieve. Please forgive me if this is a repeated rookie question. This is my first time cycling a reef tank. I have done several weeks of research before I decided to start the cycle. Any help on where I stand would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
William
