Amino acids dosing - does it really work ?

Hello.

I am not sure this is most appropriate forum to start this thread, so I will appreciate if a moderator finds a better home for it.

There are many amino acid additive products in the market, which are supposed to be dosed to improve coral health and growth. The theory here is that amino acids are building blocks of proteins, and therefore must be beneficial.

On the other hand, common sense says that in nature corals should not be able to take amino acids directly from water simply because normally amino acids are not found there.

Also, recommended dosages of amino acids additive products are so tiny that it is hard to imagine them having any effect on coral growing. For example, Korallen Zucht amino acid LPS should be added at 1-2ml/100l 1/week. See http://ift.tt/1gaPTnD

So I thought I would start this thread to discuss whether amino acid additives are any good, or this is yet another placebo designed to keep our protein skimmers busy.
