So, after 1 1/2 years including a tank upgrade my rock is infested with hydroids. I have the digitate, colonial, and the kind that look like little trees growing from the rock. My corals are all dying a slow death and my fish are getting stung like crazy. I'm surrendering because between the aiptasia and hydroids my tank will never become what I want. I will just be at war all the time, nothing I try is even slightly thinning them back.
Any advice on how to start over inexpensively and least-time consuming? No such thing, I already know....! I was considering bleaching my rock and reusing it, but I'm still nervous, so I am considering purchasing new base rock so I need not worry about pests. If I move my fish to a temporary tank, bleach my dt tank and system, purchase new sand and base rock, let the rock cure - should I be good?
But everything must go, correct? Even my cheato and mangroves have hydroids attached. Anyone ever heard of cermedia? Can this be used in place of rock? Just wondering, would like to have less rock next time and more room for fish to swim.
I would appreciate any advice since I've not been doing this very long.
