Water change frequency

I have a 125 gallon reef with 40 gallon refugium. Instead of the usual once a month water change I have been doing 10 gallon changes every 1-2 weeks.... Is there anything wrong with this? I have been dealing with Dino issues and try and keep up with it by removing detritus as often as I can for now but don't want to be shooting myself in the foot.
