Curing/cycling dry live rock "the plan"

Ok here is what's going on. I got some dry live rock from a friend selling some. It was almost all in his previous tank. I scrubbed all the dead mater off and physically removed all organics I could see. It's been in a dark 20 gallon bucket with salt water 1.026, heater 78f, air stone, and a powerhead. The first two weeks the water was changed out 100% every week. So twice. Since then I have my auto water change dumping in 2.8 gallons from my display and draining 2.8 from the bucket daily. It's been two weeks of the auto WC into the Rock bucket. I've tested for phosphate, amonnia, and nitrate and nitrite. None of them being detectable yet.
I know this is a very unconventional way of curing or cooking rock but I can't imagine it not working just as well. I've cooked rock in the past and purged every last bit of nasty out of them. So I know how nice it is to start with clean media. I'll wait another month and keep testing. Has anyone done anything like this? Concerns? Drawbacks?
