Chemipure elite, Purigen and Charcoal in sump filter sock

Since upgrading to my 100g I've used a variety of phosphate controller elements in my tank. For a while I placed Purigen and charcoal in the filter sock and recently added Chemipure Elite...only to see corals like Zoas, Kenya, Xenia, and Gorgonians have a variety of mostly negative reactions.

I even cut a Phos-pad into a strip and placed it on top of the sponge in the middle baffles only to remove it after a week if for no other reason as to it cutting down the flow between chambers.

Anyway, I am starting to feel that these kinds of additives have both positive and negative effects. I decided to use them for the algae in my tank and it seemed to have a positive affect with it, but the side effects seem worse than the algae. Given algae is an anticipated phase in new and old aquariums I have concluded manual removal and water changes are overall better for the whole tank than the use of additives.

So, I have removed all these objects and even placed a brand new sock in the sump to see the corals all responding positively. On with the Future Docs algae battle plans...

Just thought I'd share my experiences and conclusions.
