Hi guys! I recently noticed when moving stuff around in my 55 gallon that I !have a HUGE bristle worm infestation! I am talking almost 2 foot long worms! There's at least 10-20 of these big guys and tons of babies. I have about a 2 inch sand bed and lots of live rock in there. At least 100 pounds. Any suggestions on catching them? I tried tongs and they just wriggle out. I keep seeing them crawling up the tank, and they are out in the day and eating the food when I feed my fish! I even saw one eating a snail the other day.
I tried cutting back on my food but my fish are acting like they are starving! I have heard of using traps but I tried the empty pop bottle, left it in for a week and nothing went in it but my watchman goby and a few blue hermits.
Any suggestions? At this point I'm thinking of just removing the sand slowly and going bare bottom. Think that would cause them to die off at all?
Lastly what to do with once I catch them? I prefer not to kill them but I know I will have to. Any more humane suggestions? One time I had a fire worm and was told to use peroxide but it took over 2 hours for it to die that way and I felt awful!!
