Hey all its been awhile!
Tanks are still going so us work insanity.
Anyway both tanks in the last couple weeks developed a very crazy slime. Tough stuff migrates to surface if not mixed and slippery heavy stuff that is best described as slime.
Theroy is, in the last few weeks heavy usage of rubbing alcohol and soaked rag of it was left on the counter daily in an adjacent room, bottle open as well.
So the theory is, vapor is triggering bacteria surge (3 carbon chain bacteria can use I'm sure some are present in reef tanks.) So a surge is happening.
Additionally the vapor has exchanged with surface gas exchange in very small amounts. So due to reef tanks being salt solutions...isoproponal is salting and seperating to the surface. Then bacteria capable of processing the carbon chain are blooming in mass on the seperating surface areas. So floating colonies of clear bio slime form. Thick ones....
As more isoproponal seperated the floating blobs are prime to process it. Some gets stirred in bacteria blob via power heads ect. So strings gwt stuck on rocks ect.
Corals fish so far unaffected.
Thoughts?
