Feather duster with no shell

I bought a feather duster that ditched his shell... i got a discount and wanted to try him... where should I put him. ..heading home for acclimation should I set him in the rock? Or should I put him in a spot where he is sheltered... i don't have high hopes but I really want to give him the best odds
