I'm getting a re-occuring brown algae on my sand that I can't seem to shake. My tank is five months old and I thought I had passed through this period earlier.
I have measured my nitrates, nitrites, and phosphates using Sachem test kits and all are extremely low. (nitrites = 0, nitrates = <2, phosphate = .03)
I've been doing weekly 20% water changes with RODI water and siphoning and it comes back every other day or so. It's driving me nuts! The tank otherwise looks great and all of the inhabitants are healthy.
What am I missing here? Why does the brown algae keep coming back on my sand? It's not all over anything else, although I am getting green algae on the glass quicker than normal. Is this the lights?!
