Question about Biological Filters

Hi everybody!

I am new to this (and fish tanks in general) and thought I'd ask some advice from some aquaculture enthusiasts.

I work for a company called BioGill who do large-scale aquaculture jobs using a biological filter. I made a miniature version to fit to my personal fish tank and it works so well that I'm approaching our local aquarium today to see if the owner would be interested in me making one for his shark tank. He has a beautiful reef shark in a large tank at the store.

I was wondering if anybody could tell me how often you need to exchange water for salt water tanks? And how much algal growth you get? I have a fresh water tropical tank and since installing the mini system I only have to exchange the water every 2 months or so, and there has been 0 algal growth. From my understanding, salt water tanks are somewhat high maintenance. Just don't want to approach the aquarium with my idea and be told that it won't be worth it. I will be offering the system to the aquarium free of charge, but I was also wondering how much you would expect to pay on an effective biological filter?

P.S. I'm not trying to sell you guys anything, this is a genuine question :)
