Our first Saltwater Aquarium

My wife and I have had freshwater aquariums for years but had always either wanted a Cichlid tank or a saltwater tank, well the saltwater tank won out.

Here’s our new tank and setup:

We bought a Marineland 75 gallon setup with a standard size tank, wooden stand, and an LED light.

Our filter is an API Filstar XP-L canister filter.

A 250 watt submersible all plastic heater; I forget who makes it. (I bought this one because it was bought with the intention of being in a Cichlid tank.)

A Hydor Koralia Evolution 1500 gph Power head

80 lbs of CaribSea live sand

We have a 38 gal fresh water tank on one wall of the living room and the new tank on another. So far we have really enjoyed it. It’s just fun learning about the do’s and don’ts of saltwater aquariums, the fish, the anemones, and the corrals. My wife has so many ideas that we don’t have the space for all of them… the tank could be 10 times bigger and we still wouldn’t have room! Her enthusiasm though keeps me smiling.

As we are new to Saltwater Aquariums and its inhabitants we are certainly open for advice and suggestions. So what do you think of the setup so far?
