Harlequin shrimp alive 3 weeks in half gallon !

My neighbor has a big Kritter box that can almost hold half a gallon and has no filter only instant ocean and cleans the box every other day and feeds it star fish almost 3 months and it's still alive! Is that even possible?! Only one harlequin shrimp in it
