I am in the process of cooking my rock for my new tank. Something crossed my mind and I cannot find a direct answer in my searches.
Should I expect to go through the uglies after cooking dead (dried out) LR?
In my current tank, I bleached my rock then rinsed and dried it out. Brown stringy algae with bubbles covered everything for about 7 weeks. I scrubbed it off with stiff brush and would catch it in filter sock once a week, then change sock the next day. I assumed this was my rocks purging/cooking during the cycle, but it was only 7 weeks, whereas most say 3-4 months to purge rock.
Is cooking the rock going to prevent this or am I simply preventing severe algae issues further into the future of the tank? A year, 2 or 3?
Just trying to figure out what to expect with a new tank with "cooked" rock.
