Advice for adding coral for the first time?

Never had coral, so Im unsure. Im going to start out with the mushrooms, and anything you guys suggest for hardy beginner coral. The store sells them on a "plate", so what do I do when I get home with them? And how many should I buy and where do I put them? Additives needed? Any advice is appreciated thank you.
