Help my duster lost his crown

I woke up this morning to my feather dusters crown being over on the side of my tank,actually quite a ways from his tube. Its just the crown which Ive read that it may regenerate its crown in a cpl weeks. But my question is....does the crown that csme off regenerate or can it become a new one? Mine is moving around in my tank. Its actually now gotten itself between 2 rocks (when I woke up it was in the sand). So its alive. Or will it eventually die? Thanks for any info
