checking water flow and blue lights?

Hey guys!

So today I got my LEDs and power head. How can I test my water flow in my tank? Can I put a drop off for coloring to see how the flow is, even if I have live rock and clams in my tank? Also, the led lights I got had a switch for only blue lights. What are they used for?
