Hello!
I'm a PADI certified scuba diver that lives in the Pacific Northwest, and I never had the time or money to seriously take up the hobby. I only dove a handful of times, and as a geologist everything about the underwater features and life was food for my soul. Enter wife and full time job, exit hobby, fast forward 7 years. After reading some notes from my last dive on the tip of the Baja, the fascination of underwater life was instantly and firmly re-awakened.
My hope is to have a slice of the tropics in my home, to act as my zen garden, that I can gaze on in my office and keep my sanity intact. My tank is 55 gallons, and while it's kept to fish at the moment, I hope to develop the skills to maintain a reef aquarium in the future. I want to be the best steward of my fish as possible as a hobbyist, and am amazed at the level of complexity of keeping a healthy, sustainable saltwater tank. I'm finding for every complicated issue or problem, there are some very experienced and knowledgeable people always willing to help in these forums. I hope to be one someday.
My 55 gal tank is 2 months old. Substrate is half rock on one side, half white sand on the other. Marineland Penguin 350 filter and LED lighting/hoods. Here are the inhabitants and quantity of each:
Chalk Basslet 1
Blue Green Chromis 4
Purple Pseudochromis 1
Midas Blenny 1
Pajama Cardinal 3
Banggai Cardinal 3
Black and White Clown 1
True Percula Clown 1
Sixline Wrasse 1
Clown Wrasse 1
Blue Neon 1
Green Mandarin Dragonet Goby 2
Yellow Watchman Goby 1
Firefish Goby 1
I've got a handful of blue leg hermits and snails for cleanup, and a thriving population of copepods.
I look forward to being a part of the group!
Cheers,
Sean
