Ammonia Measurement with Test Kits

As someone who was always hopeless at Chemistry, I was hoping someone could help me out.

I have been unimpressed with the API test kits for Ammonia so invested in a Hanna Checker LR Ammonia kit. What I don't understand is the difference in the figures.

The API test kit says it measures NH3/NH4+ (which I take as NH3÷NH4+). I didn't ever fully understand the chemistry, only that I wanted a reading of zero, and that it changed into Nitrite during a cycle.

Now my new kit measures in NH3-N and says it can be converted into NH3 by multiplying the result by 1.214. Now how do I get this to correlate with the API test kit? I assume I multiply by 1.214 and then divide by something?
