Hi,
I have a 150 gallon (72x18x28) FOWLR setup currently and have been using my two 36" Marineland advanced LED strip lights. Since I only had fish this was perfect to get things going. Now that I am setup and running I would like to venture into the world of corals. I recently purchased and added two Marineland Reef LED strip lights and wanted to get opinions on how long to run the whites and blues of both types of LEDs that I have. I have not actually added corals yet so there is nothing at risk. I wanted to get this figured out before sticking them in the water. I know that certain corals require certain amounts of light but I am asking in general. I would like to have the white lights on when we are gathered in the living room for at least a couple of hours in the evening so we can enjoy the colors and sea life before the blues come on. I assume that the more I have the lights on the more I will grow algae. I am not sure wether I should have the white lights come on in pairs (Adv LEDs then Reef LEDS) and the same with the blue lights, or if I should only have the reef LED blues on for a small amount of time and leave the Adv LED blues on all night?? So if someone would like to give some advice I would really appreciate it.
My current timing on the sets are as follows:
ADV. LEDS:
Whites - 6AM-9:30PM
Blue (lunar) - 4PM-6AM
Reef LEDS:
Whites - 6AM-9:30PM
Blue -4PM-4AM
I will list the light details below:
1. Marineland Advanced LED Strip Lights provide the ultimate opportunity to create a realistic underwater home-aquarium environment. This all-new line of LED lights is 20% brighter and is designed for reliable, long-term performance. Adjustable mounting legs allow for flexibility in fitting aquarium widths of 18-24 inches, 24-36 inches, 36-48 inches, and 48-60 inches, and an integrated timer provides maximum control. Daylight LED lamps provides brighter output than two typical fluorescent bulbs and lunar LED lamps replicate the moon-light cycle. Both settings are energy efficient; providing up to $50 in annual savings* and up to 5 years of use**. Advanced LED Strip Lights are ideal for freshwater or saltwater aquariums and low intensity plants.
