Refractometer vs hydrometer WOW!!

I wanted to share what I just found out with my new refractometer. I just got the refractometer tonight as an early Christmas present. I tested the calibration with distilled water. It read 1.000 right on the dot. Just got home and thought I would test my aquarium water. I was blown away!!! It showed 1.031. I didn't think that could possibly be right. I tested my RO/DI water, 1.000. Tested my tank water 4 times and it was the same every time. I then tested the salinity with the hydrometer I've been using and it tested 1.025. I've been aiming for 1.024-1.025. I knew that hydrometers are said to be inaccurate, but I had no idea it would be that far off!!! I'm surprised I have anything still alive in my tank. I have a couple of kenya tree corals that haven't looked very good for over a week now. I'm wondering if the high salinity is part of the problem. I want to get the salinity back in line, but don't want to do it too fast.

Let me know your opinions or if you think I'm doing something wrong with my refractometer.

Thanks
