Hello. I have a question for the court. 50 gal tank, hob sump @ 200 gal/hour, Fluval 305 canister filter.
I have completed a basic cycle on the tank and now am seeding the dry rock. I bought a little over a lb of live rock pieces. 9 of them, all nicely covered in coralline algae. The guy I have been dealing with said that would be plenty to seed my live rock since I plan on letting it sit for a few months. I also got about 10 gal of water from his sump that I did a water change with to add free floating goodness into my tank.
I stopped by a different store today and we got to talking. His viewpoint is that there is no way I can get the biodiversity I need in my tank from 9 pieces of rubble. Sure I might get coraline algae, but that's about it. He says that I need at least 1 good sized piece of live rock to introduce the biodiversity I need.
Thoughts?
I'm guessing there is truth to both sides.
Thx,
Jason
