Hello all. So thanks to you all on "the reef tank" forums I went and set up my first saltwater tank. I had an old 40 breeder from my freshwater days and it makes a great little reef tank. Since my initial setup 2 months ago I have added an Auto Top off Unit, a dual lamp T5HO light fixture; Id like to add more soon, as well as some fish and corals. Ive had atleast a dozen freshwater tanks, and i cannot even start to express my enjoyment of this tank, and saltwater in general. This week has been finals week for me (Mech. Engineering) and being able to stare at my tank in between study times made my life much more pleasant. WONDERFUL!!!
Thus far Ive gotten
an ocellaris clownfish (Samsun)
a 6-line wrasse (William)
and a Firefish (Fredrick)
My finance names them..... Cant say I mind it.
Also corals, all frags.....as I said college student (poor)
2 Pocillopora
1 Acropora (cheap frag)
1 Duncan
1 Acan
2 Leptastrea
1 Hammer coral
1 Green Fuzzy Mushroom (Carl.......fiance picked and named)
1 Orange Sun Polyp
The Acro is a test as I got it for 5 bucks, and I love acros.....testing the waters. It seems to be doing well, polyp extension and tentacle extension when I feed the tank. Not sure the sub-species, but I got a book from my library to attempt to identify......good luck right?
Just wanted to ramble and update about my tank. Likely going to buy some supplements and another coral tomorrow to treat myself for not going crazy during finals week.... If anyone has any recommendations as to something I don't already have I'm willing to try as long as it isn't gonna break the bank!
As for the Quirky idea.....As a Mechanical Engineering student I obviously love mechanisms and technology is anyone aware of a comprehensive and automated nano or pico reef that you can buy?
An all in one system with automated lights, dosing, top off, water changes, parameter monitoring, feeding, heating, cooling.......the whole shabang????
If it already exists I would love to be informed of this.
I intend to do a little DIY project in attempts to build my own....maybe 5-10 gallons.....for the fun of it. As I already have an RODI, salt, ect. so not alot of startup cost.......just something im toying with to keep me busy over summer.
As always, sorry for the rambling
If anyone has any suggestions or comments about any of this big mess i just typed please chime in!!!
Thanks all,
Cody R. Crusenberry
