Hello!
How long to wait before switching tanks? any problems with multiple tank moves?
I currently have a 35 gallon hex with a 5.5gal sump (only thing that will fit under the stand) and do not like it. Granted it looks cool and is relatively big on gallons for its foot print; but it is a pain in the dairy air to maintain and hide equipment. Powerheads create vortex effect no matter how they are aimed and sand is constantly moved around. It is a young tank about 4 months old and still battling diatoms (though I think Im starting to win!) The tank has a mediocre silicon job and the corners are difficult to clean all the diatom out. I purposely built my sump around the skimmer dimensions listed on Amazon only to find out they are inaccurate after I received it. So my skimmer is now in HOB mode and cant stand looking at it.
I am limited on space and will be moving in 6 months. I would like to get a 40 gallon breeder and move everything over to it now and then when I move I will be getting a 75 gal tank. If I move everything; water, live rock/sand, and livestock on all moves, do you see any issues? Its a short move about an hour and half drive so I dont think it will be a problem moving. Even with the 75 gallon I would be putting in the old water and adding new to bring it up to 75 gallons.
Current set up;
35 gal hex
5.5 gal sump
40 lbs live rock & 20 lbs live sand
Sand reactor
Chaeto algae reactor (new addition)
Coralife skimmer 65 (new addition)
Royal grama, Fire fish, yellow watchman goby, pistol shrimp, 2 peppermint shrimp, cleanup crew, and 2 softy frags.
Only 2 fatalities since start up, Pajama cardinal went carpet surfing, and Picasso clown was caught in power head during power flash :cry: I really miss that clownfish
Any advise would be appreciated!!
Thanks!
Chuck
