OK as the new guy I hope people do not get irritated at me posting all over the place with a lot of basic questions.
In another thread I mentioned my dream for my reef tank. I have a 100 gallon glass tank that is glass, old, and fairly scratched. Bottom line I do not want to drill this tank. I also want to make an acrylic corner tank that is a refugium. The problem is how to get water from one to the other without the main tank being drilled. My idea is to make the acrylic tank a bit taller or raise it a bit higher and build it in such a way as to have it overflow back into the main tank. This requires pumping the water from the main tank to the refugium.
Of course, and as was pointed out, this would require a large pump in the main tank and that would be ugly.
First how many GPH do I want to move between the two? If there is a head of 1-3 inches can the water be sucked into the refugium and have the ugly pump in there? Or is there a completely external option?
