Macroalgae requirements?

I bought some macro alage the other day (Chaeto and dragons breathe) and it is now dead. I figured it would live in my tank. I have 2 coral life 50/50 bulbs for a total of 20Watts. I thought that would of been good enough for the macro alage to survive. All specs are good, amoniia, nitrite, nitrate zero. I have a clownfish, 3 hermits, pepermint shrimp, 2 snails and they are all fine. Does macro algae need more light? I know i need to upgrade lighting before i get corals but i figure macro alge can survive.
