I recently bought some RowaPhos to try out in my BRS single GFO reactor. I had heard good things about it being more efficient than GFO.
So I get it and tonight I change out my media. Well the Rowaphos is much more complicated to measure than GFO. Since I dont have PO4 test kit, I went with 5 grams per 10 gallons of water. I have a 70 gallon tank and a 20g sump. I estimated a total of about 70 gallons of total water volume with rock and sand.
So I add 35 grams of media and it only put about 2 inches of media in the reactor. I did a quick rinse and put it in the sump. I have the pump wide open and the media is not tumbling at all like the GFO did at about 1/3 of the pump power.
Did I measure the GFO wrong or misunderstand the measuring technique? I have ordered a Hanna PO4 checker to be on the safe side. Any advice about how to use this stuff would be greatly appreciated.
