DIY help for WC Filtering/polishing water?

I would like to get suggestions on some kind of DIY that could filter or Polish the water from my sump/settling tank to get the detritus out quickly and return the water to the sump.

Something I could do weekly in between my monthly water change.



I tried running it threw a doubled up filter sock into a Brut can and then back in and it did remove some but the water was not clear and looked a little dirty.



Suggestions on ways to polish this water more before going back in the system.
