aquapod to led questions

I purchased a used aquapod 24 for my wife. Doing some reading and it appears to be a old tank. Most info I found is over two years old. The blue light has issues and has only came on once so far. The fish store got us setup but said to keep most corrals we would new to get led lights. I would like to keep to hood because our cat walks on top our freshwater tanks. I found one conversion kit for 150.00 seeing how most info on this tank is outdated was wondering what my options may be.
