Well I think I have found why the sps frags in my new qt tank have been decimated...at first it was the aefw but now after the flesh just started peeling off of several frags I started doing some testing after I got my wits about me...
Anyway I use regular tropic Marin non pro or reef or whatever just the regular and I am at the end of my barrel and on the last batch of water I can make with this batch of salt....everything tests normal cal 430ish mag 1350ish except ALK 12.1!!!
I'll say it again 12.1!!!!!!!
Of course I thought it was a bunk test so I immediately went to my frag tank that I just did a 100% water change in a few days ago with this water and it's 11.8!!!!
I then tested my dt and as expected 8.9 which I tested twice and tested the test solution with the kit which was spot on....salifert kit so that seems good
Tested the new water again and 12.1 again!!!
I'm sure this alk shock is what is killing my coral in the frag tank so I am doing small 1/2 gallon or so water changes to get it down slowly
THIS IS JUST A WARNING TO TROPIC MARIN USERS THAT APPARENTLY YOU GET SOME ALK SETTLING TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL!! SO CHECK YOUR LEVELS OFTEN!!!
Now is there any hope for this new batch if water as in is there anything I can do to lower the alk to a useable level or do I waste 40 gallons of water???
