Hey all - so I recently started up a new reef. It's been running for about 8 weeks and until this morning I have had no issues.
I added a new torch coral, which was branching with multiple heads two days ago. Was doing great, but after doing a 20% water change I woke this morning to fine one of the heads dropped its tentacles. They were still electric green but not not connected. With a little gentle water flow added by way of moving my hand they all fell off completely.
The rest of the torch is looking amazing and I have no problems with any of my other corals (several frog spawns and hammers, an elegance, some acropora, brains, leathers and even a dorasa clam are all doing fine).
Can torches shed their tentacles under stress and grow them back? Or is the head a lost cause? It seems to have had this happen very fast so I wanted to see if anyone had thoughts. Water parameters and trace elements were all excellent before and after the water change, though my magnesium levels were elevated after the water change.
Thanks for any help!
