Hi, I'm a newbie and I'm really confused on filter media. I just got a biocube 29 with everything (media, liverick, and some soft corals) 3 weeks ago from Craigslist (the previous owner said it was running for months) he ran it with only filter floss and he said that the live rocks are your filter. I am doing 10% water changes weekly and RO topoff. I got chemipure elite to help with filtration and I just ordered purigen from amazon. I also bought a biocube protien skimmer. But, I'm doing reasearch and people said that chemipure is worthless, overpriced and non trustworthy. (I agree that it's expensive)
So, my ammonia and nitrite levels are 0. I'm trying to bring down my phosphate and nitrate levels. They aren't that high but I want to bring them down to 0 just in case. What media should i use? Im going to use purigen and filter floss. I was thinking of combining it with seachem phosguard or matrix. Which one is better?
