Not sure if this is allowed here or not but I am creating this thread to document my 10 gallon Nano project. Can I post pics off my phone or do they need to be uploaded to a web hosting site and linked?
Anyway, I am completely new to salt water and reef tanks so this is more of an experiment for me. I am currently keeping a 75 gallon African Cichlid tank, a 10 gallon planted and a 10 gallon nursery. I stole the extra 10 gallon from my kid who gave up on keeping up with his tank and put his stock in my planted tank. Have been keeping FW tanks off and on since high school so its about time I got into the beauty of SW. Ok so enough about me.. Here is the equipment I have or have coming:
10 gallon tank - Spray painted back - black
10lbs BRS Reef Saver Dry Live Rock (on the way)
10lbs Special Grade Arag-Alive! Live Reef Sand - CaribSea (on the way)
Koralia Nano Powerhead (240 GPH) - Hydor (on the way) Will I need another?
Koolermax AR-122 6-stage RO+DI Aquarium Reef RO system 80 to 120 GPD (on the way) I wasnt going to get one of these and I was just going to use Walmart brand distilled water but what the heck.. $109 on amazon and got good reviews. I figure I am going to want to upgrade after this experiment later when I have some more cash to invest in the hobby anyway
2 Eheim Jager 100w heaters - one for mixing salt in 5 gallon pails and 1 for the tank
Anything else I am missing to start off? I think I am well on my way.
For live stock, of course the kids want Nemo but from what I understand a clown fish might not do well in 10g nano tank and may need more room. This is where I need to do a lot of research as I no nothing about sw fish other than Nemo was a clown fish with a bum flipper...
I do plan on corals and I know I have to have a decent light which I dont have yet. I figure the corals will come down the road in a few months after my tank cycles and I see it is stable enough to keep healthy happy fish. So once I hit that point I'll ask for advice on the light. I know the answer will depend on what type of coral I plan to keep.
As soon as I get some pics Ill start posting them in this thread. I guess that's it for now so stayed tuned for my progression and be prepared for some questions!!!
