I've got a 12 gallon fluval edge nano FOWLR tank that's been established on my desk at work for almost a year. I used to have an actinic LED I built myself but it stopped working about 6 months ago. Since I don't have any coral I've been using two 30 watt 'cool white' LED floodlights to light the tank. It's about 6000 - 6500 k, pretty close to natural light.
A friend took down his tank and gave me a beautiful candy cane coral with about 35 polyps. Is my light suitable for this coral? I have a total of 60 watts of LED light, which is very bright for this small tank, but the spectrum is off. Will the coral still get enough light to grow and thrive?
I'll be budgeting for a nice actinic suitable LED but it may be a couple months before I get one.
Also, how important is spot feeding for this coral? Some articles say it's necessary, others say it's not. Spot feeding at night will be really hard, this tank is at work and I live an hour's drive away.
