Black clownfish dieing?

Recently I got a black clownfish, it was all good until tonight where he started just laying on the sand floor breathing heavily, not sure if this is how clownfish usually sleep because we have no anenomoe in the tank in case it dies and we're not aware of it. If anyone has details on why it is laying on the sand bed and sometimes swimming around to go back on the sand. Please help
