I have in my tank: 2 purple firefish, 1 dragon (or banded) goby, 1 tribal blenny, red/blue legged crabs, astria snails, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 coco worm, 2 mushroom corals, 1 green hammer coral and one zoanthid coral.
I have a another question about brown and green algae in a new Red Sea 250 65 gal tank that's been up a little over a month. I've been trying hard to be patient like you guys advised, but yesterday I had to get some help. I would scrape the green algae off the glass (in sheets), and within an hour (not exaggerating) it would start to coat the glass again. So, I bought two things to help: ChemiPure "All in One" pellets to help with phosphates and phosfiltrum. I scraped and scraped, vacuumed the sand, did a 15% water change, cleaned EVERYTHING - the filters, the fans, the protein skimmer and added filter media on top of the big filter sponges to help with gunk.
I think I've done enough for today :).
Here are the questions -
1) Is there a test for silicates? My phosphates seem fine when I test.
2) Which reverse osmosis system would you guys recommend for my water? 3) How can I test my own RO water to make sure it's safe for the reef tank?
Currently I'm using ONLY water from the reef store but I'm topping the tank with about a gallon a day, which means I'm going back and forth to the reef store once a week for more water. They're great people, but I have a life. LOL, and I want to mix my own water.
If I forgot to mention something important, please tell me. I really want to get the tank under control as soon as possible.
The good news is all my critters seem to be happy - even the Tribal Blenny :).
