So I have a frag tank with led lights. Its been set up about 6 months now and I have noticed that some of the zoas grow relatively well, while others grow but with really small polyps. Seems over time that the polyps shrink.
Currently I am using the cheapo full spectrum leds with optics off ebay....seem to work fine. The lights are suspended about 2.5 ft off the tank. With that being said the frag tank is only about 7 inches deep and most of the frag racks have the frags about 2-3 inches below the surface of the water.
Two quick questions/ideas.
1. I am assuming that the par from the lights loses intensity more quickly in water than air. (making how high the lights are hung not an issue).
2. The zoas are receiving too much light?...making the polyps shrink. I have no idea but this seems logical to me.
At the current time I am running the blue channel on the leds at 100% and the full spectrum channel at 50%. Maybe turn them down some more?
Any input/advice would be great!
thank you
