Hey guys, started a thread a week or 2 ago about getting my 175 gallon back on track. Have decided to keep my current lighting setup for now. Have done well with this setup for the past 10 years growing soft corals and some LPS. Right now I think the tubes are almost 3 years old because all the LFS in my area do not stock VHOs anymore. Some of the reasons I like this setup are that that are pretty low heat. I keep the glass on the top of the tank fully covered so it cuts the noise down a ton and really keeps any evaporation minimal. I use a Ice Cap ballast and run 4 36" 95 watt tubes. 2 and 2 side by side on each half of the tank for full coverage of 72"s. I have always run the same combo, 2 Actinic and 2 Aqua Sun.
Marine Depot has VHOs and have Super Actinic, Actinic White, and Aqua Sun. Question is for Soft Coral and LPS what combo would everyone think best. I was told years ago to mix so that the tank would look good for aesthetics of the fish. Would I get better coral growth with a different combo? I am guessing not many people run T-12s and have switched to T-5s but if I can still find the bulbs I see no reason to switch. It is a total of 380 watts and with 175 gallons it puts me at 2.2 watts per gallon.
Any input would be great. Thanks in advance
