Hey crew,
I picked up some rock that someone had pulled out of their tank a week or so prior to my pickup. I Setup a tank with a heater and power head to cure the rock, and it's been in there for about 3 weeks. I have been topping off, but haven't done any water changes because I thought the purpose of the curing was for the bacteria to build up, and I figured water changes would slow that or prevent it since I'd be removing bacteria with the WC.
Anyhow, I tested the water last night for the first time, and the ammonia is at 0, and trites are at the max of the test scale, and trates are almost at the max.
What I am wondering is, should I be doing water changes, or should I be waiting for bacteria to establish to consume the trites? I know the nitrates aren't going to go anywhere, but I guess I had been under the impression that the nitrites would have been consumed and turned into nitrates.
Thanks in advance!
