Wow I have been missing for soooo long! I really need to get reacquainted with the forum again. I think it has been since April that I have been here. Work and life in general has been so crazy and busy for me. A good and wonderful crazy and busy, but still crazy none the less. So a great big hello to all of my old friends here! :)
Anyway, this thread isn't about my being missing. Tonight, while working, I started hearing this very loud snapping sound coming from one side of my tank. I have no idea what was causing it. At first I was afraid a fish was hitting the glass (nope), then I thought it was the glass starting to break (no sign of distressed glass), and then my brain thought "pistol shrimp"???? I don't have a pistol shrimp to my knowledge. If I have one it came as a tiny hitchhiker. I've never even heard what a pistol shrimp sounds like. So I looked up the sound of a pistol shrimp online and it sounds exactly like it.
Anyway, I've heard this snapping sound a few times before occasionally but never as much as tonight. I've shined a flashlight into every spot I can think of. I've never seen a shrimp in my tank. Ever.
I must be crazy.
However, oddly enough, I have noticed new tunneling and some of my rocks have been "relocated" on the side the snapping sound came from. I thought it was the clown or the engineer goby, but I've never seen the goby on that side of the tank. Maybe I have a ghost of a pistol shrimp???
I'm probably just crazy.
