So I've decided to make the jump from freshwater to saltwater and I need some help because I don't want to mess it up.
To start, I have 2 freshwater tanks, a 55 gallon planted tank and a 120 gallon blackwater style cichlid tank, I've been keeping fish for about three years.
For my saltwater tank I want to do a "planted" style, with macro algae. I have a empty 20 gallon long and a finnex planted light in the garage and figured I would set it up and start the cycle with 15 lbs of live rock and some live sand, now, there seems to be an insane amount of do's and don'ts out there, and all kinds of information about dosing and parameters and reactors that honestly confuse me a bit, I would like to spend as little as possible, I was going to pick up a powerhead, a saltwater test kit, & I can purchase RO water at my LFS. I have a canister filter, but I don't know what to put in it. I was looking at a internal uv filter but I'm not sure I need it? I don't plan on doing corals, so do I need a skimmer? I'm not sure what if any fish I would want as I'm honestly more a fan of inverts. So, someone with more knowledge, let me know if I'm on the right track? Also, stocking suggestions are helpful.
