Hypo or copper treatment for ich shouldn't need 4-8 weeks.

I've been researching quarantine/hospital tank treatment for ich and a consistent thing I've been reading is that the treatment should be applied for a minimum of 4 weeks with some people saying that it might be necessary for up to 8 weeks. This makes absolutely no sense based on the known lifecycle of the parasite.

The trophont stage of the parasite (when it is on the fish) is known to last 3-7 days. Then the parasite becomes free swimming before encasing in the tomont stage. Then after 3-28 days it becomes free swimming and searches for the host fish.

Assuming the parasite is vulnerable to the treatment during the free swimming stages, and the treatment tank was clean of the parasite before the fish was introduced, hypo or copper should stop the parasite from reaching the tomont stage. In other words, 7 days of treatment should be effective. Maybe pushing it to 10 days to be safe. Thoughts?
