Lost my first fish

Yesterday I got my green clown goby,
When I put him in he went straight over to my like live rock that has lots of branches, I kind of set it up for him because I don't have any corals yet, and he just perched there.

When I got home from work, about 10:30 I thought I'd just have a quick look with the flashlight to see if he was still in the same spot, in hindsight a pretty dumb idea and probably stressed the poor dude out even further with him only arriving at the LFS the day prior. He was just sitting in front of the rocks right next to the glass.
Before I went to bed about 12 I thought I'd have another quick look to see if he was still there, he was instead the other side of the tank in the front right in the corner, which is where all my hermit shells are.

Then when I woke up this morning first thing I checked was where this little guy is; which is when I found him, in the claws of one of my smaller micro hermits.

What I'm wondering is it more likely he died by the hermits catching him while he sleeps therefore making my tank incompatible with green clown gobys
Or was it more likely to be stress or he came in with a disease?
I don't think it's a water quality issue though because all my other fish are doing great, but it could be because all my other fish are very hardy and maybe green clown gobys aren't?
