Hello! My 125G came with all of the plumbing done by LFS. The return looks like vacuum hose glued into a bulkhead in the sump. The bulkhead is also about 3-5 inches above the water line, causing it to make plenty of noise.

I'm thinking about re-plumbing the system while doing a water change this weekend but I'm worried that any glue used for plumbing might disturb the tank?
Also, if I have a piece of PVC going from the bulkhead to about 1 inch underwater, will this work or cause flow/other problems? Any silencing techniques are welcome!
