Thoughts On Wave Makers?

Are they essential? I have three powerheads in my 45G tank and still seem to struggle with algea growth in dead spots.

I have been considering investing in a wave maker as I have read they can pretty much kill all dead spots but wanted to get your opinions. Do they work? I've looked at some online and most of them look like powerheads?

If you do feel like it would be a good investment which one would you recommend for my 45G?
