Well, I've finally talked myself into really working towards my dream system. It will be a dual-display, with a sump, frag tank, refugium, and wet/dry filter. 280 gallon display, 400 gallon display, 100 gallon frag tank, 75 gallon wet/dry, 100 gallon refugium, 100 gallon water change reservoir, 200 gallon RO/DI vat, and maybe some smaller systems attached; the RODI vat and water change system are not included in the system volume since they are not attached (except the RODI by the ATO). There will also be a 200 gallon salt mixing vat. So the true volume with the unattached tanks will be around 1,450 gallons - a truly large tank. The 2 displays will be acrylic, the wet/dry will be a standard glass aquarium, the frag tank will be a custom-built 100 gallon tank, and everything else will be poly stock tanks.
So far, I have very few questions. First, would the Reeflo Tiger Shark Pump be a large enough return? Could I go smaller? Also, have your flame angels generally been okay with corals? I wish to keep one as the only angel in my 280 gallon - I have so far heard they are fine.
The equipment I am planning to run so far is (I'm in southern NC btw, reason for the chiller):
Reeflo Orca Skimmer
Geo 818 Calcium Reactor
Milwaukee SM122 pH controller
Not sure of the return yet
JBJ Arctica 1/2 HP chiller
Custom built 75 gallon wet/dry
100 gallon stock tank with 8" or aragonite sand and chaeto, run by a Reeflo Pump w/ spray bar and 110 watt PC lighting
200 gallon RODI storage vat with an unknown ATO and unknown RODI unit
100 gallon stock tank that leads to an outdoor drain, for water changes
100 gallon frag tank run by 2 250-watt XM20K's
200 gallon storage vat with 3 maxi jet powerheads
The 280 will have inside it:
3 Radion XR30W LEDs
Tunze wavebox
3 Tunze 6205 powerheads
400 pounds of live rock (100 lbs fiji, 100 lbs great barrier reef, 100 lbs tonga plate, 100 lbs tonga branch)
1-1/2" Layer of Caribsea Select Grade Aragonite (so around 225 pounds)
The 400 gallon will run by:
400 pounds of Ocean Direct Live oolite
400 pounds of marco rock
1 MP40W and 2 MP60Ws
Heavy lighting - 3 HQI 400 Watt 13000K metal halides, 4 ATI T5 Blue specials, 5 ATI T5 blue plus's, and 3 Blue 450nm LED strips
This is where I stand so far. I'll post a stock list later on.
