Hiding spot under the sand?

I bought a Zebra eel yesterday and I don't have any real caves in my tank. I have seen people put pvc piping under their sand bed will elbows coming out. Would it work if I got a plastic container and put two elbows in the sides and put that under the sand? I was thinking that way I could look up underneath the aquarium at him.
