Brand spanking new. What's up!

What's going on everyone. My name is Steve. I don't Scubadive. Had this screenname since I was a kid and watched Big Daddy with Adam Sandler.

Now that the formalities are out of the way, yes I am another new aspiring owner of a salt water fish tank. My good friend was downgrading his size and let me buy his set up off him pretty cheaply.

My current specs: 50 Gallon acrylic.

Crushed coral substrate. Live rock.

Not sure exactly what lighting set up he gave me but it looke like a couple of flourescent long bulbs with led's for night time setting and a programmable timer.

He also threw in a Sun Sun Hw-308 Filter? (I think thats what it is) a couple of flow pumps. I purchased my own water heater. A used Grech GUP -01 filter.

I am salinating my water as we speak and filling her up. Probably going to make a lot of mistakes along the way, but that comes with the learning process I guess. I did purchase a few damsies right off the back, and the tank already has a few hermit crabs and snails (no idea the type) that are already in there.

Now my main point of question:

IF you could have any advice you would give yourself on the first day of filling your own tank and starting this hobby what would it be?
