14g Biocube startup to thrive: take a look!

Hello all, been lurking for a little, but decided to keep a journal for what's going on in hopes of getting help along the way. Started up a Biocube 14 about three weeks ago and started the cycle with a piece of shrimp. I'm not very scientific when it comes to what's going on in the tank, but I'll do my best with what I've learned in hopes that you all can guide me in the right direction.

Set everything up on December 14th:

Had water and live sand in it on December 20th getting cloudy:

Did a little aquascaping (won't be the last time as I didn't like the look) and testing parameters on the 21st:

Water testing and 3 gallon change on the 27th, you can see nitrites have spike and ammonia has gone down:

December 31st: Water tests (I'm going to start notating what the parameters are in future posts) and I think I have the aquascaping down this time. Also added Chem Pure Elite and Purigen packets to media rack

January 2nd: Noticed Green Hair Algae, did a 2 gallon water change.

I'm having a hard time with water changes for some reason. I setup an ATO for RO/DI water, and I split the air pump to be used for salt water changes, but for some reason it wasn't strong enough to pump up the salt water, only the RO/DI water...any idea?

Well that's all I have right now. I have left the lights off today in hopes of starving the GHA and killing it off. Let me know what you think and Happy New Year everyone!
