UV sterilizer

Hey guys, I just purchased a UV sterilizer. I remeber someone recommending it to me. They mention a certain way of installing it. Something along the lines of attaching it to my skimmer.





Should I just go ahead and install it by connecting it to my return pump?



Also, how long should the hose be. I know that the shorter it is the less the UV will be affective.
